Dr. Coakley's 30-year combat medical career began as a Marine Recon corpsman. After achieving his paramedic license, Dr. Coakley's love for pursuing medical knowledge led to his commissioning and attending medical school. As a special operations-focused doctor of medicine, he specialized in Trauma Surgery and Traumatic Brain Injury intervention in war zones across the globe. Collaborating with the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence (TBICoE), Dr. Coakley conducted analytical research and developed innovative protocols for pre-hospital providers to manage non-penetrating traumatic brain injuries. Dr. Coakley, along with Dr. Zabel, provides Legacy TacMed students with a clearer understanding of the physiology of trauma medicine and the significant impact their intervention in the field has on both the surgeons at the hospital and the patient's overall outcome.

In addition to being a SWAT paramedic, Austin has gained considerable overseas combat trauma experience working as a Protective Security Specialist (PSS) Paramedic.
As a SWAT paramedic, Austin assists in developing CoTCCC-approved Tactical Medicine courses in tandem with Legacy’s 18D and SOCM (Special Operations Combat Medic) instructors. In addition to being a SWAT paramedic, Austin has gained considerable overseas combat trauma experience working as a Protective Security Specialist (PSS) Paramedic. Working through the Department of State, Andrew has over 1,000 days on the ground in Iraq as a PSS Paramedic. Austin established his county’s SWAT Medic program and continues serving as a SWAT paramedic for the Sheriff’s Office.
